Drawing life-lessons

from three men who encountered Jesus
and who changed their lifestyle for the better!

1 - Seizing the Opportunity

Luke 19:
1. As Jesus was passing through Jericho, a man named Zacchaeus, one of the most influential Jews in the Roman tax-collecting business (and, of course, a very rich man),
3. tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowds.
4. So he ran ahead and climbed into a sycamore tree beside the road, to watch from there.
5. When Jesus came by he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name! "Zacchaeus!" he said. "Quick! Come down! For I am going to be a guest in your home today!"
6. Zacchaeus hurriedly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.

Zacchaeus had always been a forward-thinking man. He knew a good opportunity when he saw one and he knew how to get in on the ground floor, before everyone else caught on.

That's probably how he had made his millions: by seeing what a good opportunity tax collecting for the Romans could turn into - and he was right! Now he had become a very rich man.

It was this same trait of good anticipation that brought him to the attention of Jesus that day.

He saw early that he would never be able to catch a glimpse of Jesus where the crowds were thickest, so he ran on ahead and climbed into a tree beside the road.

No one else would have thought of such a thing: but the forward-looking Zacchaeus did!

Jesus rewarded his forethought! If Zacchaeus had put so much thought and effort into placing himself where he could see Jesus, then he deserved to be rewarded by Jesus visiting his home that day.

What about you? Have you put yourself out to seek Jesus and have Him come to your home?

Your home is the place where You are most comfortable, deep in your inner person. Have you gone out of your way to invite Jesus there - as Zacchaeus did?

Prayer:
Father, if I have been half-hearted in seeking You out and inviting You into my inner person, please forgive me.
I want to be like Zacchaeus. I want to seek You out in such a marked way that You would be pleased to come and grace my life with Your presence.
And thank You for the joy that Your presence in my life brings!
in Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
